Mesa Community College has a private butterfly/pollinator garden. They highly recommend that we plant Betony-Leaf Mistflower to attract pollinators.
Conoclinium betonicifolium, commonly known as betony-leaf mistflower or betonyleaf thoroughwort, is a perennial herb native to a variety of habitats including open woodlands, grasslands, and along stream banks in Mexico, from Chihuahua to Quintana Roo, and southern Texas. It typically forms a low mat with stems that run close to the ground and sometimes root at the nodes. This species can reach a height of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) and spread out to 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters) wide. The plant produces several flower heads throughout the summer and fall, each with attractive blue or purple disc florets but no ray florets, which are particularly showy and attract a variety of pollinators.
Betony-leaf mistflower is valued for its ornamental appeal, with its vibrant flower color and extended blooming period. It is often used in butterfly gardens, as a ground cover, or in border plantings due to its ability to attract pollinators and provide ecological benefits. It is relatively easy to maintain, requiring minimal care once established. The plant prefers full sun to part shade and can tolerate a range of soil types, provided they are well-drained. It is not commonly reported to have serious disease or pest problems, but it can spread aggressively in optimal conditions. Gardeners should monitor its growth and manage its spread to prevent unwanted naturalization. --https://easyscape.com/species/Conoclinium-betonicifolium(Betony-Leaf-Mistflower)
